As Bournes marked 150 years of service in 2025, one of the most meaningful ways we chose to celebrate this milestone was by giving back to the communities that have supported us throughout our journey.
Throughout 2025, we ran a special Facebook-based Community Competition to recognise and support the local people, groups, and causes making a real difference. Rooted in our commitment to building sustainable futures, the initiative focused on uplifting volunteer-led organisations working in areas like reducing poverty, improving health, enhancing wellbeing, and expanding access to education.
Thanks to hundreds of thoughtful nominations and votes from our followers, we were proud to donate to 12 inspiring monthly winners:
- Emmetts Genies
- Rye Scouts
- Hamstreet Primary Academy
- Alone at Christmas at St Andrews Church
- Meadows School
- Playden Primary School
- Kings Hill String Club
- BounSEN
- Go Play Holiday Club
- The Retreat Animal Rescue
- Friends of Chandler School
- Warming Up the Homeless
In addition, two further donations were made to Rye Girlguiding and St Philips Community Larder in Tunbridge Wells, in recognition of their remarkable work and overwhelming nominations, votes and community support (despite getting pipped to the post in the final votes!).
From bringing music and magic into children’s lives, to creating inclusive spaces, caring for animals, supporting local schools, and helping those facing hardship with warmth, food, and companionship — this competition has highlighted the incredible power of small, local charities doing big things.
We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who nominated a cause, cast a vote, or shared their story. This celebration wasn't just about our history — it was about honouring the present and investing in the future.
Supporting the communities that have supported us for over 150 years couldn’t have been a more fitting tribute. We’re proud to champion these organisations and look forward to seeing their incredible impact continue.
