What changes did Brexit make to moving household goods to The Netherlands?

Since the UK left the EU after Brexit there have been changes to the Customs Clearance process for moves into The Netherlands. Your move manager will guide you through the process to help you prepare.

It is more important than ever to use a qualified and professional European Removals Company when moving from the UK to the Netherlands.

The documentation, processes and customs requirements are no longer straightforward, so your removal company needs to have implemented the correct procedures to ensure everything runs smoothly and you are not faced with additional charges if these have not been followed.

How long do removals from the UK to the Netherlands take?

This depends on the method of transport. Dedicated vehicle services will pack up at your origin property and then travel directly to your destination home as soon as they receive the green light from customs to travel. Depending on where you are headed this can be as little as a couple of days.

For shared services this can take a little longer as we need to collect and load all the shipments at our warehouse before starting the trip to The Netherlands, but we will let you know what to expect up front.

Customs Process for International Removals to The Netherlands

Since the UK left the EU we no longer have 'free movement of goods' between the UK and The Netherlands. This means the import of your household goods (furniture and personal effects) are subject to import and export rules and procedures.

Your Bournes Move Consultant and Move Manager will guide you through this process, but here's a little of what to expect to help you start planning.

Your belongings will need to clear customs to exit the UK and again in the Netherlands to enter and be approved for duty-free import. For this to happen you will need to provide some customs documents, which will depend on your status.

Restricted and Prohibited items

There are some items you cannot move with you to the Netherlands, and others that require additional paperwork or processes. These include:

Customs Documents

Prior to your move you will need to complete some documentation to enable us to make arrangements. This will depend on your status i.e. if you are a UK or Dutch National, but your move manager will guide you through and provide copies of the forms you need, these include (but aren't limited to):

Passport copy
Visa (if needed)
Inventory List
Copy of registration from town/city hall where you will live, noting the country you are moving from (If you do not have this document please speak to your move manager who will advise on alternative documentation that can be used).
