Customs Process for International Removals to Australia
The import of your household goods (furniture and personal effects) into Australia are subject to import and export rules and procedures.
Your Bournes Move Consultant and Move Manager will guide you through this process, but here's a little of what to expect to help you start planning.
For your items to clear customs you will need to provide some customs documents, which will depend on your status and personal situation.
We will advise you on this during your move consultation or you can check out the FIDI Customs Guide for Australia
Restricted and Prohibited items
There are some items you cannot move with you to Australia, and others that require additional paperwork or processes. These include:
- Fresh fruit and vegetables
- Live plants, bulbs and some seeds
- Unidentified seeds/spices
- High-risk plant products
- Some plant based herbal medications
- Unprocessed goods of plant or animal origin
- Soiled goods, or goods containing organic residues
There are also some items of Biosecurity concern that have the potential to bring into Australia pests or diseases that will need to be declared and inspected, and potentially require cleaning in advance.

Customs Documents
Prior to your move you will need to complete some documentation to enable us to make customs declarations and arrangements. This will depend on your status i.e. if you are a UK or Australian National, but your move manager will guide you through and provide copies of the forms you need, these include (but aren't limited to):
- Passport copy
- Customs form B534
- Inventory of goods
- Visa (if applicable)
- Australian residential address
