Bournes Celebrates This Month’s £150 Community Heroes - Warming Up The Homeless, Bexhill

Posted by By Bournes Moves - January 5, 2026

Congratulations to Warming Up The Homeless, the deserving winners of December £150 to Celebrate 150 Years award from Bournes.

Our monthly award is part of Bournes’ year-long celebration of 150 years in business, recognising local organisations making a genuine difference in their communities. This month, we’re proud to honour Warming Up The Homeless for their compassionate frontline support of people experiencing homelessness along the South East Coast, an area served by our Rye Removals and Storage team.

This special nomination came to us from Oliver, Chairman of the School Council at St Peter and St Paul C.E. Primary School in Bexhill on Sea. Oliver blew us away with his passion, even sending us a video to explain exactly why this charity means so much to him and his fellow students. Receiving over 170 votes from the local community, Oliver’s nomination touched on a powerful connection between our work at Bournes and the mission of Warming up the Homeless. He pointed out that our work in moving people into new homes every day means we know that a home is so much more than just a building - it’s the feeling of comfort, safety, and care, and as Oliver so beautifully put it:

"Everyone deserves to feel safe, warm, and cared for - especially in winter.".

Warming Up The Homeless

Warming Up The Homeless is a registered, independent charity providing vital services to people in need across Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne, and surrounding areas. Their mission is simple but powerful: to relieve poverty and reduce the harm experienced by people without secure accommodation by offering essentials such as hot meals, warm clothing, sleeping bags, toiletries, and emotional support. Beyond basic needs, the charity also helps connect individuals with additional welfare and housing services and fosters dignity and community in all they do.

Through daily outreach, distribution centres, and volunteer-led programmes, Warming Up The Homeless brings warmth, nourishment, and a listening ear to those facing the harsh reality of homelessness — meeting not only physical needs but showing care and respect at every turn.

A Thank You to Our Runners-Up

We’d also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the runners-up in this month’s award:

  • St Phillips Community Larder, for their ongoing work fighting food insecurity and supporting vulnerable families.
  • Fairlight Drop-In Social Club, providing a welcoming space and vital social support to locals in need.

Each organisation contributes in a meaningful way to improving lives in our local area, and we’re honoured to celebrate their efforts as part of our anniversary initiative.
