What is a part load move?
A part load move is where multiple customers belongings are sent in a single vehicle (sometimes with a trailer). This is a cost effective way of moving household goods when you don't have enough volume to fill an entire truck, or where a bigger truck could be taken to share some of the travel costs.
As the cost of road transport is largely determined by the size of the vehicle it is moved in and not the volume within it, sharing a vehicle means you don't have to pay for the empty space as other customers will fill it.
How long do part load removals take?
The amount of time your part load move will take depends on 3 elements.
- How long it takes us to fill a vehicle with other customers goods who are moving along the same route. If you are the last customer to have goods collected then the truck can leave soon after collection, but if you're the first you may have a short wait. We'll advise you of the projected door-to-door transit time when we give you a quote so this is clear upfront.
- Travelling time - how long it takes the truck to drive to the destination.
Since the UK left the EU we need to stop en route to clear your belongings through customs, this doesn't usually take too long but will add a little onto the direct driving time. - Where you are on the route - with part load moves we'll plan the most efficient route, making each delivery one after the other, taking into account any committed dates of 'dedicated dates' customers. So, if yours is the first stop delivery won't be much more than the direct driving time - but if you're the last you'll need to account for the time it takes to make the other deliveries along the way. As soon as we know our route and before we depart we will give you a delivery date so you can plan for your belongings to arrive.
Will my items get lost in a part-load vehicle?
Once we've packed and wrapped all your items we will make sure they are all clearly labelled with your details.
We then produce a numbered inventory of the items that have been collected. This inventory is then used at your destination to ensure all the items are carefully checked off and delivered to the right customer.
I'm only moving a few boxes, will a part load work for me?
If you're just moving a few boxes a courier service will most likely be more cost-effective for you as these companies specialise in a high volume of box shipments allowing them to provide the most cost-effective rates where traditional removals services and support are not required.
How do I work out if I need an exclusive vehicle or part load move?
You can book a pre-move survey and one of our expert move consultants will assess your volume of goods for you so they can advise on the best method of transport based on volume and schedule requirements.

Why should I use a FIDI Removal Company or a BAR Member for European Removals?
Accreditations and certifications are a good way to determine the professionalism and credibility of a company. With a little money and a web expert any moving company can get a good position in your search engine listings, but how do you know they are reputable?
Organisations like FIDI (who certify international removal companies to the FAIM standard) and the BAR (British Association of Removers) pre-vet moving companies for you, and only let those who meet their standards become a member and display the badge. BAR companies also offer an advance payment guarantee so if anything happens to the removal company whilst your move is in progress you are financially protected. Can I choose my collection and delivery date?
Yes, if you choose our 'Dedicated Dates' service. Any other shipments sharing the transport costs with you will be coordinated around your dates to make sure that we can collect and/or deliver when you need us to.
