How much does International Shipping cost?
The main part of our costs is based on the number of items you would like us to move (your ‘volume’) and the location you are moving from and to, but there are also some other factors that will affect your total costs, including access to your properties, the dates of your move, how quickly you require delivery or any special handling or packing requirements you might have. Why should I use a FIDI Removal Company or a BAR Member?
Accreditations and certifications are a good way to determine the professionalism and credibility of a company. With a little money and a web expert any moving company can get a good position in your search engine listings, but how do you know they are reputable?
Organisations like FIDI (who certify international removal companies to the FAIM standard) and the BAR (British Association of Removers) pre-vet moving companies for you, and only let those who meet their standards become a member and display the badge. BAR companies also offer an advance payment guarantee so if anything happens to the removal company whilst your move is in progress you are financially protected. Can Bournes help with packing for my international move?
Of course! Our removals crews’ complete specialist packing training and are experienced in wrapping and packing your items to protect them for the specific risks of international moving (Did you know a container can move up to 7 different ways while at sea?!).
We can pack everything for you or (depending on your destination) just some items if you prefer to pack some of your own boxes. If we’re packing we’ll bring the boxes with us on move day and you can just leave everything where it is, if you’re doing any of your own packing we can include early delivery of your boxes for you in our quote.
How will my move work?
When we’ve talked through your personal move situation and requirements we will suggest our recommended services and move plan to provide the most cost effective method of helping you move that covers all your moving goals.
If something we suggest doesn’t quite work the way you’d like it to or if you want to explore alternative solutions that’s no problem, just let us know and we’ll be happy to customise the plan so that you’re most comfortable.
So if you want us to store your belongings at our depot for a few weeks while you search for a new home that’s fine, we offer storage here in the UK or at your destination. If you want a few boxes quickly but the bulk of your move as cheap as possible and are happy to wait then that’s no problem either, we can provide both air and sea shipping services. Our services are completely flexible, it’s your move and we’re here to make it as easy as possible for you.
How do I get a quote for International Shipping?

For larger moves we usually like to arrange a Move Consultation (sometimes known as a ‘survey’). This allows us to talk through your personal requirements further, explain your options and how your move might work, highlight anything you might find useful to know (like what you can and can’t take to specific countries based on their customs regulations) and to assess the technical aspects like the volume of items you’d like to move, the access to your property, any special packing or handling requirements that might be involved. We will send your quote over as soon as possible afterwards.
Typically we will visit you at home for the move consultation, but if you don’t have time, need an out of hours appointment or would just prefer us not to visit we can offer a range of other options like a Live Video Survey (available 24/7) using your smartphone, a telephone survey, a written self survey form or a self survey app that allows you to take photos of your home and submit them to us for a quote.
How can I cut the cost of international removals?
We will always work with you to tailor the most cost effective solution and provide our best price for your move, but we understand that sometimes budget is limited and you might need to identify other ways to reduce your costs.
Moving on a Friday can be more expensive as it’s the most popular day to move, the same goes for moves on weekends and sometimes other weekdays during school holidays. Avoid these peak periods to get the best prices for your move. Booking early may also save you a little money.
Another way to reduce your costs is to declutter. Only pay to move the items you’ll be using at your new home. Sell, donate or recycle anything you don’t have room for or simply don’t need anymore.
