Rye Bonfire - A Local Tradition

Posted by Kirsty Parsons - November 20, 2014

Wherever we grew up, or move to there is more to feeling at ‘home’ and loving where you live than just your house – the vibe and spirit of a town/city and its community can really make a difference.
In medieval Rye, birthplace and home of Bournes Removals HQ, there is always something to look forward to. From snow covered cobbles in the winter to nearby beaches in the summer, from Wild Boar Week and Scallop Week for the foodies to everyone’s favourite night of the year, Rye Bonfire Night.
As tradition dating back to the 14th Century ‘Rye Fawkes’ night, as it is affectionately known, is quite a spectacle. With burning boats, a fire breathing dragon, spectacular fireworks, huge bonfire and streets lit up by the procession of flaming torches of the ‘bonfire boys’ from across the South East and local community groups this weekend’s Rye Bonfire Night is one of our favourite nights of the year.
