Why choose Bournes for Removals & Storage?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does a Removal Company cost?
Your investment in removals and storage will vary depending on your individual move circumstances. The main part of our costs arise from the quantity of items you would like us to move (your ‘volume’) and where you are moving from and to.
There are other things that will also affect price though, like stairs and how far it is from parking to your front door (access), the dates you’re looking to move or any special packing requirements you might have.
The best way to get a fixed quote for your move is to get in touch with us so we can understand more about your personal requirements, but you can get a rough idea here.
Do I have to do all my own packing to move house?
Not if you don’t want to! Packing services may actually not be as expensive as you think and can be hugely valuable in saving you time and stress.
Our removals crews’ complete specialist packing training and are experienced in wrapping and packing your items to protect them for the specific risks of moving house. We can pack everything for you or just some of your belongings (like your fragile items) if you prefer to do some of your packing yourselves. If we’re packing we’ll bring all the boxes along on the day and you can just leave everything where it is, if you’re doing any of your own packing we can include advance delivery of boxes for you in our quote.
For all UK moves we will bring along wardrobe cartons on moving day to pack any hanging clothes and stop them getting creased, so you can just leave those in the wardrobe until we arrive.

How do I get a quote for Removals services?
Fill in the quote form to submit a web enquiry and we’ll get in touch to find out more about your move, alternatively you can call us on 01797 228000.
Depending on the size of your move we may like to arrange a Move Consultation. This allows us to discuss your requirements in detail, explain how your move could work and to assess the volume of items you’d like to move, the access to your property, any special packing or handling requirements that might be involved. We will send your quote over as soon as possible after our consultation.
Typically, we will visit you at home for the move consultation, but if you don’t have time, need an out of hours appointment or would just prefer us not to visit we can offer a range of other options like a Live Video Survey (available 24/7) using your smartphone, a telephone survey, a written self survey form or a self survey app that allows you to take photos of your home and submit them to us for a quote.
Can I do an online survey instead of a home visit?
Yes. For larger moves we usually prefer to do a home visit but for smaller moves or for those customers who don't have time for a home visit or are just looking for a guide at this stage we also offer an alternative online self survey form.
The form takes around 15 minutes to complete (depending on the size of your property) and once you've submitted it we'll be in touch to discuss the finer details and provide you a quote. requirements.
Why should I use a BAR Removal Company?
Accreditations and certifications are a good way to determine the professionalism and credibility of a company. With a little money and an internet marketing expert any moving company can get a good position in your search engine listings, but how do you know they are reputable?
Organisations like the BAR (British Association of Removers) pre-vet moving companies for you, and only let those who meet their standards become a member and display the badge. So, if you want to be sure you’ve chosen a reputable Removal Company, look for the badge. Find out more about removal company accreditations here.
How can I cut the cost of my move?
We will always work with you to tailor the most cost effective solution and provide our best price for your move, but we understand that sometimes budget is limited and you might need to identify other ways to reduce your costs.
Moving on a Friday can be more expensive as it’s the most popular day to move, the same goes for moves on weekends and sometimes other weekdays during school holidays. Avoid these peak periods to get the best prices for your move. Booking early may also save you a little money.
Another way to reduce your costs is to declutter. Only pay to move the items you’ll be using at your new home. Sell, donate or recycle anything you don’t have room for or simply don’t need anymore.
What if I don’t have a date for my move yet?
That’s fine, actually it’s a really good idea to have your chosen removal company selected and all the details agreed in advance so that all you need to do when you get a move date is confirm it. This saves you a lot of time and makes sure that your preferred mover is available.
At Bournes we can even book your provisional move date in for you early and if you take our Cancelation/Postponement waiver option you can re-arrange this up to 24 hours before hand with no additional charge.
How big are your Removals Lorries?
We’ve got a range. We use our small 3.5 ton packing vans for pre-packing or for houses with tight access. We also have our standard 7.5 ton lorries which we find suits most average 3-bedroom house moves and have larger vehicles right up to 18 ton lorries which can also tow a trailer to double the capacity for efficient transport for even the largest moves.
Our varied fleet means we can handle any size move and any access challenges you may be concerned about.
Our vehicles are also custom designed for Removals and Storage and carry equipment like electronic tail lifts and ramps for efficient loading, timber tie rails to secure large furniture items for transport and air ride suspension to reduce movement and protect our precious load. When it comes to moves requiring storage our side loading doors allow us to load straight into a wooden container at your home meaning we don’t have to handle your items again when they are returned to our warehouse, reducing the risk of damage and our costs.
