Shipping and air travel to Qatar has been heavily restricted this week, it has been announced.
Trade with Qatar was suspended at the beginning of the week by seven of its neighbouring nations amid concerns that the country is supporting active terrorist groups in the region.
Land, sea and air borders have been closed by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Libya, Yemen and the Maldives, with confirmation today (June 7th) that NYK Line will not be shipping in or out of Qatar at present. It is thought that other shipping lines may follow suit over the coming days.
Air travel in and out of Qatar is also restricted, with several airlines no longer operating direct flights in and out of the region.
At present, it is not known what the long-term effects will be for assignees in the country, although with nearly all air, land and sea links to the area currently blocked it is strongly advised that anyone due to come in or out of Qatar speaks directly with the company they were due to travel with.
If you currently have a shipment with Bournes you will be contacted by your move manager if you are affected. However if you have any concerns please don't hesitate to contact them directly.
